BIGA Employment and Training is the leader in developing and placing building and construction apprentices in small to large organisations across Queensland.
Operating from Brendale in South East Queensland and with several other offices, BIGA suffered from an ageing server and network infrastructure. As the network environment was not only out-dated but also overly complex, costs involved were increasing, as three full time IT staff were needed to keep the slowing network in operation. BIGA needed a network upgrade, with a standard operating environment, uniform desktop environment and cost effective maintenance.
As BIGA’s IT partner, Sentrian undertook an extensive network infrastructure audit. Based on out client’s requirements the team designed a new network environment, and managed the implementation of renewed IT infrastructure. Keeping a close eye on the project budget, the network upgrade was executed in several stages. New central servers were installed to increase capacity and maintain vendor warranty. Terminal server technology was implemented to deliver standardised desktops and application management to all staff in all offices. Proprietary hardware was replaced by thin client terminals to reduce ongoing maintenance. A license audit showed a need for an optimisation of Microsoft licencing to maintain compliance and reduce expenses.
BIGA now enjoys a standardised network environment, which is reliable and dependable. At the same time the ongoing cost of maintenance and support is significantly reduced by using Sentrian managed services for controlled maintenance, monitoring and support. BIGA can now manage their IT environment with a single (part time) IT coordinator, thus keeping cost to a minimum and reliability to a maximum.
