MSJA Lawyers began in 2018 as a new property firm shaking up Queensland using the latest cloud infrastructure technology, support and unified communications.

Facing a tight three-month deadline before opening, MSJA Lawyers chose Sentrian as their dedicated IT partner, and began a Sentrian One subscription to ensure they were fully operational and productive from day one.

The Challenge

As a brand-new firm scheduled to open its doors in April 2018, MSJA Lawyers positioned itself as an ambitious commercial property and development practice. It had the human talent but the directors needed a well-coordinated IT solution to ensure the firm’s infrastructure and data was in-place.

The directors made clear their desire for an innovative practice management platform. Committing to a single platform for a long-term period was a key priority after several of the directors had experienced a quick succession of practice management transitions at their previous firms.

Sentrian identified three goals that needed to be achieved concurrently to ensure the firm was ready on time. First, adequate on-site office infrastructure was required for staff, including IP telephony, local computers &amp; networking. Second, cloud solutions needed to be ready to allow legal staff access to their resources inside and outside the office at all times. Finally, existing client data needed to be migrated from other firms in coordination with multiple practice management providers.

The data migration would be both a technical and management challenge, and critical for MSJA Lawyers's professional standing.

The Solution

Working closely with MSJA Lawyers, Sentrian developed a comprehensive transition plan that would achieve the firm’s start-up goals within the targeted three-month timeframe.

MSJA Lawyers quickly decided on a hosted Practice Evolve solution due to Sentrian’s expertise and prior experiences.

The data migration became the focal point of Sentrian’s Service Transition team’s work. The team coordinated the data export with the directors’ previous firms and worked with Practice Evolve to efficiently import the data into the new configuration for MSJA Lawyers. Early, instructive and open communication with the third parties was crucial to ensure the integrity of the data and a timely migration.

  • Sentrian IP Telephony – a cloud-based PBX solution, with a choice of handset or headset for each user, plus a desktop & mobile app, enabling staff to make and receive calls on any device from any location.
  • Service Desk – IT help for every staff member when they need it.
  • Sentrian Desktop Security – protecting the firm’s equipment and data from cyber threats.

The Results

MSJA Lawyers commenced work as planned in April 2018. Thanks to the Service Desk, support was readily available for all staff as they learned about their new devices.

The data migration for Practice Evolve was successfully completed without issue. All MSJA Lawyers legal, operations and administrative staff had access to the resources they needed to get on with their roles.

Director Sarmein Jamieson said the effort to get the IT infrastructure in place had gone according to plan. “Not only just the initial set-up, Sentrian’s on-going support has been second to none. It’s excellent,” he said.

Looking to the future, Mr Jamieson recognised how important IT would be for the firm to remain competitive going forward.

“It’s been a great learning experience. We are conscious that we need to keep on-top of the IT side of things. Sentrian will help us, but it’s clear that IT is not a set-and-forget aspect of the firm.
